The Crown at Worthington is a local favourite among pub goers and reopened in July after a four-year closure.
Situated just outside Standish on Platt Lane, Worthington, the historical building has been beautifully refurbished to provide contemporary guest rooms, a large function room, a marquee and outdoor seating area.

150-year-old pub
Customers can sit by the roaring fire in the bar area, and the menu is centred around fresh food which the team of chefs prepare with skill and flair – although this doesn’t mean a small portion or overinflated prices.
Food
All of our ingredients are fresh – we only use the freezer for ice cream and the microwave is hardly ever in use. Our chefs smoke our salmon over wood chips in the kitchen, All our sauces are made in house and out black pudding is made from scratch.
The Bar
Wide selection of drinks including our first-class gin selection. We’ve invested in a high-tech tonic machine which is one of the only models of its kind in the north west!”

3 double rooms are available with 1 twin room available on room only. Room rates start from £55 per a room during the week and £75 per a room on weekends .

Andrew and Nic’s dog-friendly bar area is often frequented by Silver, the family dog, and the four children pitch in too by offering a hand with duties and pitching their ideas for food and events.
We’re a family-friendly pub and offer quiz night’s on Thursday from 8pm, Live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Plus Comedy nights once a month. Call us to find out more on what’s happening at The Crown.

History of The Crown
When the pub closed four years ago, there was a local outcry and a campaign began to “Save the Crown”. The Crown at Worthington has a rich history and heritage is important to the new owners. There are records on the pub from as far back as the 1860s, when Henry Atherton ran the “Crown Inn” and was actually turned down for an alcohol licence! He persevered, got his licence and ran the pub until the 1890s.
Awards
Over recent years, the pub proved popular with locals with a huge Yorkshire puddings being hailed by customers and the friendly welcoming from there staff as two of the great draws. In 2009 the Crown at Worthington won the CAMRA award for Regional Pub of the Year. Following its 2016 closure and the subsequent £250,000 refurbishment this year, Andrew and Nic are delighted to be serving customers at the Crown at Worthington, just as Henry Atherton did all those years ago.
